Overview
Preparing for Cambridge C1 Advanced involves much more than learning exam techniques. Success comes from developing your language, refining your skills across all four papers, and becoming familiar with the demands of the exam through regular, purposeful practice.
This course is designed to support that process. Across seventeen live lessons, we'll work on Reading & Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking while developing the language, strategies and confidence needed to approach the exam effectively.

This course is designed for English teachers and advanced learners who:
are preparing for the Cambridge C1 Advanced exam;
wish to improve their language proficiency while preparing for the exam;
would like structured preparation across Reading & Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking;
enjoy learning in a small group where discussion, reflection and questions are encouraged.
What you will develop
By the end of the semester, you'll have developed:
greater confidence in approaching all four papers of the Cambridge C1 Advanced exam;
more effective strategies for Reading & Use of English, Writing, Listening and Speaking;
greater control over the language typically expected at C1 level;
the ability to recognise recurring patterns in your own performance and respond to feedback effectively;
greater confidence in completing exam tasks under timed conditions.
How we'll work
Each lesson combines language development, exam preparation and collaborative learning in a supportive environment. We'll analyse authentic exam tasks, discuss effective strategies, review language in context, and complete activities designed to develop both your proficiency and your confidence.
Throughout the course, you'll have opportunities to reflect on your performance, receive detailed feedback, and gradually build the judgement needed to make more effective decisions during the exam.
The course programme will be based on a coursebook, but rather than following it unit by unit, we'll work through carefully selected units and activities according to the objectives of the course.
This approach allows us to revisit important language, connect ideas across different topics, and ensure that each lesson contributes meaningfully to your overall preparation.
Regular timed practice will help you become familiar with exam conditions while providing opportunities to monitor your progress throughout the semester.
Independent study
Learning doesn't stop when the lesson ends. To make steady progress, you'll be expected to spend approximately two hours each week on independent study.
This includes homework, lesson preparation and review activities designed to consolidate what we've covered in class and prepare you for future lessons. These tasks are an essential part of the learning process and will help you get the most from our live sessions.
Course information
Dates: 8 August – 5 December 2026 (No lessons on 16 October and 20 November.)
Schedule: Saturdays, 9:30–11:30 a.m. (BRT)
Duration: 17 live online lessons
Group size: Minimum of 3 participants, maximum of 6.
Keeping the group small allows everyone to participate actively, ask questions and receive individual attention throughout the course.
Course materials
We'll use Open World Advanced by Anthony Cosgrove and Claire Wijayatilake (Cambridge University Press), as our main coursebook.
Additional materials and mock tests will be shared through Google Classroom at no extra cost. A Gmail account is required to access the platform.
Lessons are recorded whenever one or more participants are unable to attend. Recordings remain available for seven days.

About the tutor
I've been teaching English for over fifteen years, with a particular interest in Cambridge English Qualifications, writing development and language education for teachers.
I hold a degree in Languages (UNESP), the Cambridge C2 Proficiency qualification, CELTA, TKT (Modules 1–3) and Trinity CertPT.
Teaching continues to fascinate me because every lesson offers a chance to understand how people learn. Watching a student gradually recognise patterns, make better decisions and become more confident in their own judgement is one of the most rewarding parts of my work, and it continues to shape the way I approach every course I teach.
